About the Hospital

Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University, opened in April 1937 and founded by the Chinese Medical Association, is one of China's highest-ranked comprehensive hospitals, receiving an A++++ designation in the National Hospital Rankings and consistently placing among the top five nationally.

The hospital has 2,005 beds, serves over 4 million outpatient and emergency visits and 100,000 inpatients per year, and holds 18 National Clinical Key Specialties across disciplines ranging from hepatobiliary surgery and cardiovascular medicine to pulmonology and organ transplantation.

It is the birthplace of Chinese liver surgery and performed China's first liver transplant; the Liver Cancer Institute of Fudan University and the Shanghai Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases are both headquartered here, giving the hospital national leadership in hepatocellular carcinoma and cardiac disease. The Department of Cardiology performs over 20,000 PCI procedures annually with a success rate exceeding 98% for complex lesions, and the hospital's heart transplantation program reports a 5-year survival rate of 82%, among the highest in Asia.
