About the Hospital
The University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital, inaugurated on July 1, 2012 as the first public hospital in mainland China managed by a Hong Kong academic institution, is China's pre-eminent model for evidence-based healthcare reform — integrating HKU's patient-centred care standards, GP-gatekeeping, transparent fee schedules, and multidisciplinary team consultations into a mainland public hospital.
Accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) in 2015 and achieving National Grade 3A status in 2017, the hospital currently operates 2,000 beds across six Centres of Excellence in oncology, cardiovascular medicine, neuromedicine, orthopaedics, reproductive medicine, and prenatal diagnosis, with a second-phase expansion to 3,000 beds under way.
As the sole designated mainland institution authorised to dispense Hong Kong- and Macao-registered drugs and devices in clinical use, and home to an active Clinical Trials Centre feeding into both HKSAR and mainland clinical trial networks, HKU-SZH provides international patients with access to medicines and technologies available at leading Western academic medical centres alongside the cost advantages of mainland China.
