About the Hospital
Shanghai Chest Hospital, founded in 1957 and affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine since 2005, is China's first tertiary hospital dedicated exclusively to cardiothoracic diseases and holds national key clinical specialties in thoracic surgery, cardiovascular medicine, and cardiac and great vessel surgery.
With over 1,000 beds and approximately 28,000 surgical procedures performed annually, the hospital was the first in mainland China to perform Da Vinci robotic-assisted thoracic surgery and has since built one of the world's highest-volume robotic thoracic programs.
The hospital pioneered multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment of lung cancer in China and was among the first centers to implement targeted therapy and immunotherapy for lung cancer, establishing the country's first dedicated lung cancer multidisciplinary team incorporating surgery, oncology, and interventional pulmonology. In 2021, the hospital's thoracic surgery service exceeded 20,000 cases in a single year, with 96.3% of pulmonary procedures performed minimally invasively, and the center consistently ranks among the top three thoracic surgery programs in national specialty rankings.

- Pioneered endobronchial ultrasound-guided biopsy (EBUS) as standard staging for lung cancer in China.
Featured Technology & Equipment
Da Vinci Robotic Thoracic Surgery Platform

Da Vinci Robotic Thoracic Surgery Platform
The hospital performs robotic thymectomies, mediastinal mass excisions, and robotic lobectomies for lung cancer, achieving minimally invasive results with greater precision and less physiologic stress than open chest surgery.
Hybrid Thoracic-Cardiovascular Operating Room

Hybrid Thoracic-Cardiovascular Operating Room
A combined surgical-interventional suite enables simultaneous ablation, stenting, and open repair of complex esophageal, cardiac, and pulmonary conditions, reducing the need for staged procedures in high-risk patients.
Interventional Pulmonology Suite (EBUS/EUS-B/TBNA)

Interventional Pulmonology Suite (EBUS/EUS-B/TBNA)
Integrated endobronchial and endoscopic ultrasound with real-time needle guidance performs non-surgical biopsies of thoracic lymph nodes and masses, avoiding the morbidity of mediastinoscopy or CT-guided biopsy.
