About the Hospital
Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, opened on November 28, 2014 in Changping District as a joint initiative of Tsinghua University and the Chang Gung Medical Foundation of Taiwan, achieved Grade 3A status and has grown into a major comprehensive academic hospital with over 2,000 beds, more than 3,000 staff, over 400 senior specialists, annual outpatient visits exceeding 2 million, and more than 25,000 annual surgeries.
As Tsinghua University's primary clinical teaching hospital, it has established seven Centres of Clinical Excellence covering hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery, organ transplantation, cardiovascular medicine, gastroenterology, neurology, orthopaedics and sports medicine, and ophthalmology.
Led by Chinese Academy of Engineering Academician Dong Jiahong — one of the world's foremost authorities in hepatobiliary and transplant surgery — the hospital's transplant programme covers all six major organ types and has achieved multiple world firsts, including co-leading the world's first combined pig-to-human liver and kidney xenotransplantation clinical trial, completed in 2024.
